Roots Reggae

Roots reggae - Roots reggae is the name given to Rastafarian reggae music from Jamaica, which evolved from Ska and Rocksteady, and which was made famous outside the Caribbean by the legendary singer/songwriter Bob Marley. Roots reggae is an inherently spiritual type of reggae music, the lyrics of which are predominantly in praise of Jah Ras Tafari Makonnen â€” Haile Selassie (1892â€“1975) the Emperor of Ethiopia (1930â€“1974).

Square Roots - Square Roots was a ska/reggae/rock band that was formed in 1986 by surfers from the Pleasure Point surf ghetto, located in Santa Cruz County, California. Founded by drummer Billy Pitrone, Square Roots quickly became one of the more successful bands from the Santa Cruz area, regularly touring the West Coast as a headline act and also as an openig act for top national and international bands.

Misty in Roots - Misty in Roots began life as a Southall based British roots reggae band in the early 1970s. Their first album was Live at the Counter Eurovision, a record full of Biblical Rastafarian songs.

Socialist Roots Sound System - Socialist Roots Hi-Fi was a Jamaican reggae sound system and record label owned by Tony Welch (aka Papa Roots) in the 1970's and early 1980's, it stood alongside Stur Gav, Channel One, Virgo, Jah Love and Jack Ruby as a Heavy Weight sound of the time.
